Hummel opens 1st India store in Bangalore

Danish sports lifestyle brand Hummel has recently opened a new store in Bangalore. Spread across 1,700 sqft, the store in Indiranagar is the first store formally launched by the company.

Besides Bangalore, the company has also opened four franchise stores in Pune, Chennai, Surat and Amritsar. The sports brand will invest $5.5 million in its first year of operations in India and open 10 more stores in the current fiscal year, claims a media report.

The Chennai store is one of the bigger format stores, where the brand will have yoga sessions as part of customer engagement program, Soumava Naskar, Managing Director of Hummel India said on his LinkedIn post.

Globally the brand offers 6000 SKUs for men, women and kids, in India the company will reportedly start with 850 SKUs for men and women only.

According to a media report, the company is investing $5.5 million in the first year towards warehousing, logistics, back-end operations and marketing. It is expecting to garner Rs 20 crore in sales this fiscal. The search is on for store locations in malls in Mumbai and Delhi and the company is also identifying locations in Hyderabad, Lucknow and Ludhiana to set up stores. Hummel’s mall stores are planned to be 800 sq ft – 900 sq ft in carpet area and its high-street stores will be over 1,500 sq ft.
