The leather brand plans to have 25-30 exclusive stores in total by end of the fiscal.

Kolkata-based leather brand Kompanero from ASG Leather Pvt Ltd, with 16 exclusive brand outlets all across the country, plans to add 9-10 more stores by end of the current fiscal with one in Chennai next. Like other luggage and handbags brands, the brand also plans major store presence in all major airports of the country.

Commenting more on their retail scaling, Indranath Sengupta, Director – Retail, Kompanero, told Retail4growth, “We are present in all major metros except for Chennai and some of the tier-II cities like Chandigarh, Pune, Amritsar, Kochi etc. Going forward, we are focussing on both the categories of cities along with some cities which are frequented by travelers like Goa, Kochi etc. We will also be present in all major Indian airports soon.” Before starting its retail operation in India in late 2014, Kompanero was exporting its goods to foreign market and their popularity in European market prompted them to start in India. Today, the brand is present through 70-90 SISs in the UK and through POSs in 200+ stores in Australia. “We plan to open exclusive outlets in overseas market too,” Sengupta added.

The brand stores of Kompanero wear a unique look of a vintage dilapidated house. Bangalore based design agency Brandvak has designed and executed their branding and store design. Bijitesh Mallick, Founder and CEO, Brandvak, told Retail4growth, “We created the brand’s nomenclature with the idea of how bags are our perennial companions. In order to translate it in our retail design, we wanted to create a clear differentiation from what is already available in market. We created a vintage look of the store while appealing to the contemporary new age shoppers as well. We used real railway slippers and translated it into the store fixtures, display units etc.”
