This is METRO's first wholesale outlet in UP and is also its 23rd in the country

METRO Cash & Carry India set foot in Uttar Pradesh, by opening its first outlet in the state capital Lucknow. This is METRO’s 23rd distribution centre in India, expanding its footprint to 14 cities and 10 Indian states.  METRO’s first store in Uttar Pradesh is located in BBD Green City, Faizabad Road, Lucknow.  The 55,000 square-foot outlet brings METRO’s considerable expertise in business-to-business wholesale across India. METRO has invested approximately INR 60 crore in this store, which provides close to 300 direct and indirect jobs to the local economy.

Arvind Mediratta, Managing Director, METRO Cash & Carry India said,  “After 13 years of operations in India, METRO has abundant experience and remarkable insights into the Indian market today.  We are here in Lucknow because we believe we offer business customers here the largest assortment of food and non-food products and excellent professional services, at most competitive prices. We are so confident about our offering to Lucknow’s businesses that we are backing it with a price guarantee – if a customer is able to find lower wholesale prices on the same product anywhere in the city, METRO will refund the price difference“, he added.

Uttar Pradesh, as India’s most populous State, represents a vast and exciting market for METRO.  Modern trade is estimated to grow over three times in the next 5 years, with the development of infrastructure and small & medium industries, seen as the backbone of social, economic and industrial development in the State.  Hence METRO sees great potential in the UP market and plans to have a greater presence here in the future.

Special offerings at the new Lucknow outlet include an unprecedented assortment of specialised healthcare and babycare products, and a vast range of organic products under one roof – from grains and vegetables to flours and other processed foods..
