The fashion school is the brainchild of Arnab Sengupta and other industry professionals, and is set to generate widespread interest among the youth of Kolkata in fashion studies

Celebrated Designer Arnab Sengupta from Kolkata marked the beginning of a new chapter in fashion studies in the City of Joy by establishing the National School of Fashion. Given the dynamic market forces, the fashion and design industry is growing exponentially. There is an evolving need for trained fashion and design professionals in Kolkata. The National School of Fashion, brainchild of Arnab Sengupta and other industry professionals, is set to create widespread interest among the youth of Kolkata in fashion studies.

The institute, located at CE 25 Sector 1 Salt Lake City Kolkata, will offer three month/six month courses on Visual Merchandising, Styling, Jewellery Designing, Textile Art, Fashion Journalism, Pattern Making, Fashion Illustrations and Design Development, Fashion Photography, Textile Dyeing and Printing, Garment Manufacturing and Kids Wear. It will also offer a one-year Diploma and two-year Advance Diploma Courses on: Fashion Design, Textile Design, Garment Manufacturing, Fashion and Media Science and Costume Designing for Films and Theatres.

"NSF arises out of the dearth of proper fashion structure in Kolkata. Being in this profession when I started I had to face a lot of struggle. The city still needs to learn the grammar of fashion. Lack of trained professionals who are self taught in fashion requires a few finishing elements to be grasped. For professionals, short-term courses and for the prospective students, longer durations are on offer at NSF. NSF in the near future would continue with B.Tech in Fashion that would immensely benefit the students to monitor their aim and direction in life,” said an exhilarated Arnab Sengupta looking forward to his new venture.

The first session will start from the middle of June and the fee for the three-month Certificate Course is Rs 30,000; for the six month Certificate Course, it is Rs 55,000; for the one-year course, it is Rs 95,000 and for the two -year course, it is Rs.1,80, 000.

While talking about introducing such specialised courses on visual merchandising, Arnab adds, "In India there is hardly any institute that offers such off-beat course. We are formulating a targeted curriculum for the people who aspire to become trained visual merchandisers which will include both 3 and 6 month certificate course. We would be calling professors from NIFD, NIFT and different other fashion institutes and industry trained professionals like veteran fashion designer Sharbari Datta, Designer Chhuti Adhikary, Swarup Dutta so that they can guide the diverse course modules and conduct workshops as relevant to the industry standard. I feel one should know the grammar of fashion and only then can replicate the same in their design.”
