Spencer's Retail expands its online presence across India; introduces online delivery service in Vizag

Spencer's launched its online channel in 2016 and is available across Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi-NCR region and now in Vishakhapatnam. The retailer plans to start servicing in Lucknow as well soon. Food & grocery delivery market has witnessed a significant upward movement and is estimated to be around $600 million in India by 2020.

Spencer’s Retail, part of Rs 40,355 crore RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, is steadily expanding its omnichannel presence through its online shopping channel www.spencers.in in India. The retail chain which is one of the first omni-channel player in the groceries category, launched its online channel in 2016 and is available across Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi-NCR region and now in Vishakhapatnam. The retailer plans to start servicing in Lucknow as well soon.

According to Shashwat Goenka, Sector Head – Retail, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, “Spencer’s is the first truly omni-channel player in the groceries market where the shoppers can expect to have the same quality experience across store and online channels in terms of assortment, product quality and customer service. Our online services, Spencers.in will further enhance the shopping convenience for our customers. Users can make a purchase via our website or App, and get a hassle-free shopping experience. Our delivery capabilities enable us to do same day delivery, with a delivery window of 3 hours. We are looking to provide differentiated online grocery shopping service by providing delivery of a diverse range of over 25,000 SKUs. In one of the firsts, we deliver fresh fish & meat products as well which are packed in specially designed chill pads and insulation boxes to ensure high quality. We have included payment options such as ‘card on delivery’ apart from options like cash payments, internet banking, gift coupons and popular ewallets. Since our launch in 2016, we have received over-whelming response in Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata and Delhi-NCR. We are very excited to extend this service in Vishakapatnam as well.”

While Spencer’s expanding its online grocery business to new markets, and simultaneously working to improve fulfillment capabilities and working towards more efficient customer servicing, the online food and grocery segment is indeed strengthening its foothold within the country. Currently, Spencer’s runs 125 stores including 38 large-format stores across 35 cities in India.
