The café is designed like an art house for bikers with seating fitted with real suspensions and original bike seats

Kolkata gears up with the launch of'The Bikers Café' in the Platinum Mall. The 2,500 sq. ft restaurant caters to the biker's every spirit, his longing for the open road, adventure and freedom, truly reflected in the menu, décor and music. The interiors and furniture of the café have a raw industrial feel that is customised to enhance the biker's overall experience. The café has a tie-up with the Harley-Davidson Motor Company and will be offering special parking for all Harley-Davidson owners apart from special privileges to super biker clubs.

According to Sanjay Yadav, Owner and Director of The Biker's Cafe and Manoj Rathi, Franchisee Partner, Kolkata was the natural choice for The Biker's Café as it is the birthplace of the "adda” culture. The café is designed for the young at heart, the biking enthusiast and the "Adda” lover. The entire space has been divided into three sections having a lounge area, a bar segment and a private dining quarter.

"The Café is all about a westernised adda for the bike lover. Being a biker, when I travelled in different parts of the world I thought of a theme restaurant where our kind of food will be served which is healthy and tasty. Thus, I conceived The Biker's Cafe and the first outlet was launched in Delhi in December 2012. Now we have introduced this theme to the Kolkatans. The people of Kolkata have a deep passion for travel so what better place than the City of Joy for the café,” he said.

Yadav added, "To me it is an'art-house' where every piece of the decor has been personally hand picked. For example, the real war helmets which is are integral to the interior at the bar corner enhances the look and feel of the theme that we wanted to project. A biker is a person who is adventurous, loves sports, loves to explore with his or her bike.”

The brand logos of bikes like Harley-Davidson to Royal Enfield are printed on the tables, World War II helmets double as lights and Ducati to Indian tanks mounted on the walls make up the interior decor. A chopper is also on display for the next four months before it goes on sale with other bike merchandise also occupies a prime place in the whole setting.

Raghu Ram, the anchor of MTV Roadies who was present in the city for the launch of Biker's Cafe, shares, "I am a biker at heart and I identify myself with the mentality of a biker. To me a biker is a person who is open-minded, adventurous and discover new things. When it comes to this particular place, it captures the mood of a biker who loves diverse cuisine, great music and as we do not have a biker's bar in India. This is a very nice beginning which is introducing that culture to the youth. The Kolkata youth is very creative and looks at things in a very different manner which is similar to a biker's view point.”

When asked about his message for safe riding, he said: "It is un-cool to be reckless, mere driving a bike does not make any one biker. To me a real biker is a person who is experienced, may be with a guitar on his back and who is extremely responsible.”

The global brotherhood sentiment and food being the proverbial "fuel” for the bikers sustaining them during the journey inspired the innovative global cuisine selection which included American, Italian, Cantonese, Japanese, Moroccan, Thai, Vietnamese, French, British, Mexican and some Desi treats. "This is our second venture after Delhi and Kolkata being famous for "adda culture”, great enthusiasm and open to experimentation I feel that the youth will really enjoy coming here. Our designer from Delhi has conceptualised the whole space for the theme cafe and being located in a very happening area of Elgin Road, we aim to cater to a large section of today's generation that loves global cuisine, beautiful music in a great setting,” said Rathi.

The main idea behind this launch is to create an experience for the bike enthusiast as well as the biking novice that will bring to them a sense of being on the road and create an ambience for "adda”. In terms of expansion, Yadav said: "Soon we will open an outlet in Gurgaon and plans are there to roll out in cities like Goa and Bangalore.”
