Aaira: A royal cuisine with a majestic milieu

Reflecting Indian royalty, the décor and design elements have been inspired by the rich heritage of the country.

Aaira, the fine dining Indian restaurant from the house of Myx, was recently inaugurated at Park Street, Kolkata. Located on the first floor, the sixty seater restaurant is spread over an approximate area of 2,000 sq ft which has been conceptualised and designed by renowned interior designer Ajay Issar.

As one enters the restaurant, the tranquil drizzle of the wall-water fountain welcomes the food lovers in to a regal setting. The marble floor with an inlay pattern of semi-precious stones resembling the lotus theme transports one to the grand Nawab palaces of the Mughal era. Adding the flamboyance to the walls are the framed paisleys handcrafted in Zardozi; an art form that received immense benefaction under the Mughal emperor Akbar.

A stately ambiance has been created with the display of doors and windows which resemble the Jaafri works of Rajasthani palaces, especially with the embellishments in brass engravings and popular motifs of birds and flowers.

Speaking about the concept, Issar shares with VM&RD, "The main concept was to create an ultimate royal décor, for which we selected the lotus motif that actually runs in the whole interior. We have tried to build a very cosy environment which is really consumer friendly and it can attract all the age-groups. Even the bar-area is at one corner done with attractive onyx stone and glass, but at the same time it is a little unobtrusive because the place caters to the family crowd at large. Thus, we created a more private and pleasant ambience as a whole with the gold and silver hues which mix beautifully and give a soft look and tone.”

The elegant theme continues to the wall images that have traditional Indian designs embroidered in red and silver tones. Also the tufted golden chairs and sofas with milky marble tops ensure a comfortable yet stylish experience.

Co-owned by Prem Bhambani, Abhishek Kajaria and DJ Vicky Metharamani, the group has previously launched the happening night club Myx on the fifth floor and the oriental themed restaurant Chilli Wok on the second floor.

Speaking about the cuisine, DJ Vicky shares, "Aaira offers classic Indian dishes and the diners may try various flavours right from Punjab and Awadh and sample authentic Mughlai specialties from Kashmir, Lucknow, Bengal and Hyderabad and also savour the spices of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Also the USP of Aaira is its position, and for the food connoisseurs they will have different types of cuisine all under one roof. We are soon launching the OTT (over the top) hookah and lounge bar and Out of D' World which will serve Italian and Lebanese food.”

Speaking on the launch, Prem Bhambani said, "The response to Myx and Chilli Wok by Kolkata has been overwhelming. And we wish to offer a new gem with the launch Aaira. We hope to continue our high standards of quality and service and assure our patrons that the taste of our latest restaurant will linger much beyond.”
