Beating the Quest for the perfect signage

An array of attractive signage's at the Quest Mall in Kolkata adds glitter to the new shopping destination of the City of Joy.

Kolkatans are getting a feast for their eyes through some innovative new signage's at the happening Quest mall in the city. Here is a look.

Pylon - At the front facade of the Quest Mall, the attractive Pylon signage has been innovatively conceptualized for the elevation of the mall, which was executed by Klik Advertising. Rahul Ghosh, Director of the agency shares, "The innovation has been conceptualized with inspiration from Nature based on the flow of water (rain drop). The curvature of the sign has similarity to rain drops falling from the sky through any solid substrate. The challenges were to match the inner structure curve with the outer one and also ensure proper installation. It was very difficult to match the thermal bending part with the MS IS section (inner structure). The size of pylon is 24'x4' from the ground level and we used MS IS section, 3 mm MS sheet.”

The section has been thermally bent as per the CAD drawing and the MS sheet too has been cut through laser cutter as per the drawing and LED is used inside the pylon. While sharing the production difficulties Rahul further mentions, "Cost always is a matter in case of production. We have tried to minimise the cost in every respect as we have done the entire signage part of the mall. We have taken 17 days to complete this job. We used high intensity module LED with rain water-proof transformer. At the time of installation we faced enormous problems due the height, weight and the location. Grouting was a major role in the case of installation because the location was completely in concrete. We had to use chemical grouting process for solving the issue. There were 20 people and a crane with an engineer and it took one whole day for the installation.”

Quest - The name Quest has been written in a very interesting manner which attracts anyone visiting the mall. Tapas Debnath, the other Director of the agency shares in this regard, "We wanted to put a sign which will look heavy, gothic and gel with the façade of the mall having a glow at night. The sign has been made with complete mild steel. It was difficult to make the letter as per drawing and also to lit it up at night.”

The sign has been made by 3mm MS sheet and the facia of the sign has been perforated through electro-cutting. A translucent acrylic has been placed behind the facia. The formation of the letter has been made by3 mm MS roll through CNC plasma cutting and bent through CNC roller bender. Water proof module LED has been used for illumination.

While mentioning the production challenges here, Rahul Ghosh further shares, "Installation was a great challenge because it was heavy and we had to put it up vertically/ perpendicular on the floor (90degree) without any support which was not easy.  We used module warm high lumen LED. We had use chemical grouting method to put the signage in front of the entrance. The main difficulty was to maintain the curvature of laser cutting acrylic facia with the 3mm side wall of the letter. The size of the signage is 16'x 5' and it took us 14 days to complete the installation.”

Exit - According to Rahul Ghosh, "This has been conceptualized from the term "bio-friendly". We have tried to use the colour and materials accordingly. The basic challenge was to put the signage on the wall .We adopted a special arrangement to the signage on the finish wall.”

The basic structure of the letter has been made by 3 mm AL sheet and the sheet was cut into holes through CNC router. The internal structure is made by powder coated AL tube. The outdoor type with duco paint with PU coating has been made on the letter. Channelium letter is use on the surface and modular rain water proof was use for illumination.

"Installation was a challenge as we had to install this type of solid letter (we could not put it separately). The size of the signage was 16'x 3' and it took us 9 days to complete this signage,” signs off Tapas Debnath.
