Serafina gets a new look at Quest Mall in Kolkata

By Nabamita Chatterjee | March 19, 2018

The Italian influenced brick house look of new ritzy Serafina with alfresco seating arrangements is chic, vibrant and cozy.

Serafina, the New York based Italian Eatery chain recently reopened their doors in Kolkata with a brand new look and a new chef’s Menu.  The red-brick facade, roman arches & earthy colours with Serafina’s signature hand painted walls have bestowed the Italian dine den with a classy, warm & Italian rustic charm. Designer Payel Khanna has fabricated 76 seating positions in such a way, that diners can now get a clear view of the semi open kitchen enjoying a live experience of chefs, rustling up their Pizzas.

Rajiv Singh, The General Manager, Global Kitchens shares with R4G on the new concept and look, “Serafina, earlier here had the concept of a fine dining restaurant, but if you observe the brand across the world, it is having more of a casual approach. So the basic thing we wanted to change was to make it more accessible, more open and present it like a hangout zone for everyone including families as well as for millennials. The new design is more cool, more open, more inviting, hence it attracts people to a different level.”

Serafina has got an old world charm blended with the modern flavours, serving the guest a perfect joyful Italian cuisine experience.

While talking about designing the space Payal (Founder Aura Dezyne) mentions, “We were given a space completely half of what we originally had for the brand. The challenge was to optimize to the fullest and create something 'out of the box '.Keeping in mind all the F&B spaces on the 5th floor level of Quest Mall, and dominantly three designed under our design studio Aura Dezyne, we wanted to make sure we follow our fundamental ethos Concept First, Then Design! I have always been mesmerized with the Italian Architecture, so decided to re visit my little travel book, and design an Italian influenced brick house for our world famous eatery ‘Serafina’”.

As Italy has a very broad and diverse architectural style, which cannot be simply classified by period or region, Payal tried to create a highly diverse and eclectic architectural design with roman arches, brick columns and burnt brick flooring, simply focusing to showcase a bespoke design. The idea was to make the outlet look vibrant, yet warm. “We also created interesting alfresco seating and collated the ambience with the traditional Serafina hand painted walls and thus ‘Made it simple, but significant’” shares the designer.

Under Global Kitchens, Serafina is now present in Kolkata, but they are very soon looking at all the metro cities for further expansions. Soon they are going to Bangalore, and Chennai. Guwahati as well is also in the definite expansion plan of the brand.
