Gaurang unveils its first showroom in Kolkata

Gaurang, the ethnic Indian wear label from Hyderabad, recently unveiled their first outlet in Kolkata at Southern Avenue. Spread over an area of 5000 sq ft, the store epitomizes the latest in weaves and traditional wear.

On the expansion of his label, Gaurang Shah said, "This is my seventh store across India after Hyderabad, Mumbai and Chennai. Kolkata was always there in my mind and once I got the right location in the city, I immediately went for it. The old world charm of the building attracted me instantly and I tried to keep that look and feel in the entire space of the store. As my collection is entirely handcrafted and curated, I always had a thought of an independent and traditional Bengali house, which I got in Southern Avenue, one of the most promising locations for my merchandise. In fact all my stores are designed in such a way that they replicate a look and feel of a handloom house having very bright day light to add vigour to the entire collection.”

The store has been divided into three levels. The ground floor houses the readymade ethnic wear, while the first and second floor stocks exclusive sarees designed by Gaurang and comes from various regions of the country.

The designer adds, "Here I started with the launch of my Summer Collection called'Grisma' which is all about a blend of varied cultures, and a heady concoction of fabrics, weaves in Kolkata, a city rich in culture and traditions. In this outlet, I would like to expand more with the menswear and fabric range very soon, which will then be launched in other outlets as well.” Gaurang plans to expand its footprint by opening a store in New Delhi very soon.”
