IKEA announces opening of its second store in India

The more than 5 lakh sq. ft. store at Navi Mumbai will facilitate crowd management and extra precautions will be implemented from global best practices and adequate leanings from the Hyderabad store.

The Swedish furniture giant, IKEA has announced the opening of its second Indian store at Navi Mumbai on December 18, 2020. With the store opening, the company picks up its plan to continue expansion of retail stores in India, after two years.

The more than 5 lakh sq. ft. store on Thane-Belapur road will cater to a wide variety of customers and will facilitate crowd management for a hassle-free experience.

Peter Betzel, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer, IKEA India, said, “Mumbai is one of the firm’s top priority markets in India, where it was experimenting with hybrid model. This includes small, large and e-stores to ensure the brand could reach consumers easily. Learning from here is expected to be put to use in other mega cities in the country.

Based on its experience of the Hyderabad store opened back in 2018, the company will allow its visitors on the Mumbai store launch, with prior online registration only. There will be implementation of extra precautions from global best practices and adequate leanings from the Hyderabad operations.
