Kama Ayurveda unveils flagship store in Kolkata

By Nabamita Chatterjee | Vjmedia Works | October 13, 2014

The brand aims to open 10 EBOs within this financial year

Kama Ayurveda has marked its presence in the east zone market with its new retail outlet at the Quest Mall, Kolkata. The outlet stocks the entire assortment of ayurvedic, organic and natural products including their bestsellers like Kumkumadi (a beauty fluid), Bringadi (an intensive hair treatment) and Pure Rose Water.

Kama Ayurveda was started in 2002 by four individuals - Dave Chang, Rajshree Pathy, Vikram Goyal and Vivek Sahni - who believed in the virtues of a holistic life and came together to universally promote the message of authentic ayurveda which is purely Indian. The company has partnered with Coimbatore-based Arya Vaidya Pharmacy (AVP), one of the oldest ayurvedic institutions in the country with ayurvedic hospitals and clinics all over India for manufacturing the Kama products.

Conceptualised by Dave Chang and Vivek Sahni, the brand's flagship stores are inspired by the erudition and charm of early 20th century colonial Indian interiors. The composed and well allotted spaces present the definitive atmosphere for ayurveda and gives a look and feel of old pharmaceuticals shops. The store has been designed in collaboration with Rajat Sodhi of Orproject.

The Kolkata store has enlarged the already existing standard design language of the three existing stores in Delhi, with its up-to-date detailing. Speaking about Kama Ayurveda's first store in Kolkata, Sahni said, "Recreating the vintage charm of our flagship store at Kolkata has been both a pleasure and a challenge. We want the people of Kolkata to experience authentic ayurveda through our natural and organic product range.”

The store decor with jalousie shutters, chequerboard marble flooring, teak and rattan cabinetry along with finial topped brass and iron shelving and ivory painted brick walls, all evoke a lavish pavilion of well-being.

"While informing about the brand's retail expansion plans, Sahni said: "Kama thought of launching the EBOs two years back and we opened our first store in Khan Market, New Delhi followed by one in DLF Galleria Gurgaon and another at DLF Mall Saket.  This Kolkata outlet is our fourth store in India. Within this financial year we aim to open 10 stores across various metro cities and soon our Chennai and Mumbai stores will be unveiled. Kama is also available in more than 70 shop-in-shops and are also sold globally and used by some of the world's leading hotels and spas.”
