With over 25 years of retail design expertise, 4Dimensions will show regional retailers how to reimagine their stores for a new generation of aspirational customers and drive better store performance.

4Dimensions Retail Design, an integrated retail experience design agency with 25+ years of expertise, is bringing a comprehensive suite of services that integrates retail experience design, visual merchandising, communication and more to Retail Yatra – Ahmedabad on April 29, 2026 at Tak Skyline.

While 4Dimensions Retail Design has worked with regional retailers since its inception, this focus sharpened in 2017–18 with the creation of a dedicated business vertical to serve them. Speaking about how the landscape has evolved, Shyam Sunder K, Founder, Principal Architect & MD of 4Dimensions Retail Design, shares, “Earlier, most regional stores were driven by local architectural execution with a limited understanding of retail design. It was largely an interior decoration exercise. Layouts were decided without understanding customer movement or retail behaviour,” he explains. Today, this perspective is changing where regional retailers are realising that specialised retail designers can enhance store performance and experience, with controlled store build budgets. Working with national and international brands has given 4D a strong foundation in store design best practices and according to Shyam, this is exactly what resonates with regional players.

"Customer journey is central to everything we do. Understanding how the customer moves through the store, what draws their attention and what needs to be highlighted, are the principles we follow in retail design, and we work hard to convince clients to trust the process. They experiment with one store, and when it works, they're on board for the next. In my experience, 80% of what we've recommended has worked in our clients' favour,” he adds.

Retail experiences in emerging cities across India are on the rise, driven by a democratisation of aspirations. Sharing insights on the same, he adds, “With social media and digitisation, a customer in a tier 2 or tier 3 city expects the same experience as someone in a metro. The gap between city and town has reduced drastically.” This shift is pushing regional retailers to think beyond spaces that sell and more towards experiential retail.

At the same time, Shyam highlights that while expectations for experience are converging, regional retailers still hold a strong competitive edge. “They understand their customers far more personally. The personalised service and intuition about what the customer wants is much stronger compared to large corporate formats,” he explains. This is also why many national brands entering tier 2 and tier 3 markets often struggle to outperform established regional players.

Building on this insight, 4Dimensions shares that regional retailers can elevate experience by optimising key touchpoints within the store. Shyam explains the importance of high-impact zones such as trial rooms and billing areas. “Trial rooms are often treated as dead spaces. But that’s where the purchase decision actually happens. We design these spaces to enhance comfort, lighting, and overall experience, which directly improves conversions,” he shares. “Similarly, billing areas are redesigned to reduce friction and waiting time, eliminating outdated practices like separate delivery counters.”

Shyam also emphasises that design alone is not enough. It requires a mindset shift. “Retailers need to open up to new ideas and think about the next generation of customers. Their current loyal base will reduce over time. Future growth depends on how well they adapt today,” he says.

With a growing footprint across South India and now expanding into western and eastern markets, 4Dimensions sees Retail Yatra - Ahmedabad as an opportunity to build deeper market connections and demonstrate its capabilities to a wider audience. In a market like Ahmedabad, where regional retailers already have a strong understanding of their customers, the addition of a strategic approach to retail design by 4Dimensions can be the differentiator that drives the next phase of growth.
