Fashion retail veteran Darshan Mehta no more

The former Managing Director and CEO of Reliance Brands Ltd., who is credited with shaping India’s premium and luxury retail ecosystem, is reported to have died of a sudden heart attack.  


Fashion and retail industry veteran and former Managing Director and CEO of Reliance Brands Ltd. (RBL), Darshan Mehta, passed away today following a sudden heart attack.

Darshan is known for his pioneering contribution towards defining India’s premium and luxury retail ecosystem. He was the President and CEO of Reliance Brands for over 17 years, since its inception in 2007. He drove RBL’s introduction of over 90 global fashion and lifestyle brands in India, including Valentino, Versace, Armani, Bottega Veneta, Coach, Jimmy Choo, Pottery Barn, Muji, Zegna, and Boss.

Before joining Reliance, Darshan served as President of Arvind Brands Ltd. from 2001 to 2007, during when he some of the country’s earliest organised fashion brand portfolios in the fashion segment.

Darshan is remembered for his sharp foresight and accurate feel for market trends - a quality that helped him be a forerunner in the luxury fashion & lifestyle retail space.
