The brand plans to open 15 exclusive stores across key Indian markets by 2019.

Following the policy of maintaining firm direct control over brand development in key global markets, apparel and accessories brand Guess India will launch their first store in India at VR Mall, Chennai, by next month.

The brand, which has been operating in India since 2012 in partnership with Major Brands, plans to open about 15 exclusive stores by 2019.

Spread across approx. 2500 sq ft, the Guess store will don the brand’s latest store design ID, Guess Concept 2018 / 5.2, which was recently rolled out in other markets such as Singapore and Australia.

In tune with the brand’s aggressive retail expansion plans across Europe, Asia and the Middle East through direct control, the India expansion plan will pan out in several phases. The plan includes the launch of the brand’s exclusive stores for accessories followed by stand-alone stores for kids. The overall plan is to launch 15 stores by 2019 across key Indian markets like Mumbai, Punjab, Bangalore and Delhi.

Since 2012 Guess has been operating in India through Mumbai-based Major Brands Pvt Ltd (exclusive licensees for brands like Inglot, Charles & Keith, Aldo, Call It Spring, La Senza, Bath & Body Works etc. for the India market) before pulling out its operation in the country last year. Some of the other names who operated through Major Brands and later opted out are Mango and Pramod. Mango re-started their store operation in India through their partnership with Myntra last year. Meanwhile, Pramod has disclosed the plan to operate independently in India.
