The LuLu Group recently launched its first Hypermarket in Coimbatore, its first in Tamil Nadu, and the launch has generated a lot of buzz, marking its foray into the state with new expansion plans lined up.

The new hypermarket is located at Lakshmi Hills Compound, Avinashi Road, Coimbatore, and it reportedly procures 80 percent of its vegetables and fruits directly from farmers in the state.

"We have been receiving excellent responses from the customers in the last 2 weeks. Arabian sweets with different varieties and 20 different varieties of dates are our exclusive gifts to the customers here. We also have a separate section for millets from the local farmers in Tamil Nadu,” says Balaji, General Manager, Lulu Hypermarket, Coimbatore.

“Unlike other hypermarket and stores here, we have a special session for the Local produces like millets, 'varaku' and other vegetables that are grown locally in this district and adjoining districts. Organic vegetables and fruits that are grown in this area are also sold in the fruit and vegetables sections,” Balaji adds.

The hypermarket is billed as the biggest hypermarket in Tamil Nadu and is also the first venture of the Lulu Group in Tamil Nadu. Earlier, Lulu Group had signed an MoU with the Tamil Nadu government reportedly for projects worth Rs 3000 crore to set up shopping malls, hypermarkets, food processing and logistic sourcing centres.

While a shopping mall has been planned in Chennai and is set to start construction soon, active plans for new hypermarkets, food processing and logistic hubs in various regions, including Salem, Erode, and Hosur, are also being lined up according to reports.
