Maia, a place dedicated only for recipes by Indian mothers has launched their first outlet in Bengaluru. An initiative by an aunt and nephew; Sejal and Ishan Shah, the place aims to be a home-turned- restaurant for people to come and experience authentic mothers recipes from across all boundaries, be it state, country or continents.
The restaurant is 100% vegetarian restaurant promoting a ‘Farm-to- Fork’; concept. The house specialities include the sandalwood and camphor aromatic
The 5,000 sq ft restaurant has over 130 covers across three levels, which are spread over an alfresco dining area by a water body and open-to- air decks on the levels above. The restaurant also has Recipe Repository, a place which will collect the recipes shared by mothers from across the country. Guests could take down the recipes for them to try at home, but mobiles are not allowed, they need to note down the recipes. Additionally a retail space is also in the offing which will store the home made spices, pickles, jams etc by the mothers which
Speaking to Retail4Growth, Ishan Shah said, “We have imported most of the furniture and fixture from Thailand. We spend 20% of the entire budget in furniture, fixture, decor and lighting. We have allotted a banquet space which we are looking for designers and lighting experts.” On the expansion plans, he said, we already have a consultant on board and unlike other eateries, rather than making chefs a celebrity, we celebrate mothers. We will be expanding this activity to places like Mumbai, Delhi and Gujarat through franchise model”, Shah said.
