R Kumar Opticians, a trusted eyewear brand with roots dating back to 1968, is strengthening its retail presence in Ahmedabad with the addition of two new stores. Speaking with Retail4Growth, the company shared that it recently opened a store in Science City and is set to launch another outlet in Nikol by the end of this month. 

“We have always expanded at a pace where we are confident of maintaining our service standards,” said Amman Anup Kumar, Partner at R Kumar Opticians. “The newer areas of the city, especially around the ring road, are now emerging as strong markets with many new residential developments in this vicinity.”

He further added that proximity to customers plays a key role in their retail strategy. “For us, being closer to residential areas is more important than being on a high street. Eyewear is a category where customers prefer convenience and accessibility, especially because a large part of the interaction is service-driven.” 

The company’s expansion remains closely tied to its ability to deliver consistent in-store experiences, which include a combination of retail, clinical expertise, and after-sales service. With strong backend and established store formats, the brand is now better positioned to scale when the right opportunities arise.

R Kumar currently has stores across Ahmedabad, including Ashram Road, Bopal, CG Road, Vastrapur, Satellite Road, and Sabarmati-Gandhinagar. Going forward, the company will continue to look at neighbourhood markets with strong residential base and steady demand.
