Mobile retailer Big C eyes to expand in South

Big C is planning a Karnataka foray next fiscal and also looks to ramp up the total number of stores to about 325 next fiscal.

Mobile retailer Big C is eyeing expansion in South India, a top official of the company said.

M Balu Chowdary, founder and CMD, Big C, said that the company wants to increase its product portfolio. “After retailing smart TVs we are keen to expand our offerings to IoT devices like air purifiers, robotic floor cleaners,” he said.

Big C is planning a Karnataka foray next fiscal and also looks to ramp up the total number of stores from the existing 225 across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu to about 325 next fiscal across these three states as well as Karnataka.

He further said the retailer will be going for a larger format play in 2020-21 with its proposed outlets being about 2,000 sq ft space as against the average store size of 800-1000 sq ft.

The company is targeting a turnover of Rs 1,500 crore in 2020-21 as against a target of about Rs 1100-1200 crore in the current fiscal, he said, adding that the retailer clocked revenues of Rs 1,000 crore in 2018-19.
