Spencer's Retail on an expansion spree

Spencer's Retail jointly opened two new stores recently, one at Siliguri and one at Gorakhpur and prior to that one in Hyderabad.

Spencer’s Retail, an RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group Company, is on a major expansion mode across the country. The brand recently opened its 12,500 sq.ft. store in Siliguri. Located at The Vega Circle Mall, Sevoke Road, the new Spencer store at Siliguri becomes the second city in West Bengal to have more than one Spencer’s outlet.


Speaking about the store, Aniruddha Banerjee, Vice President - East, said, that the new Siliguri store on Sevoke Road brings the number of total Spencer’s outlets in West Bengal to 27 and the second in Siliguri. He added that Siliguri is a very important city for Spencer’s with its first hypermarket opening in City Center, Uttorayan way back in 2011. The consumer response has been most encouraging. The footfall in this store has gone up by about 14% since last year and is one of the best running hypermarkets for Spencer’s Retail. There are now plans to further increase the number of stores in Siliguri and the adjoining areas.


Spencer’s also opened its 9,100 sq.ft. store in Gorakhpur. Located at Shrishti Enclave, Paadri Bazaar, Gorakhpur becomes the third city in Uttar Pradesh to have more than one Spencer’s outlet.


Speaking about the store, Deepak Gupta, General Manager – NCR, said that the 9,100 sq.ft store at Paadri Bazaar brings the number of Spencer’s stores to 20 in Uttar Pradesh and second in Gorakhpur. He added that Gorakhpur is very important for Spencer’s with the first hypermarket opening way back in 2008.
 
Spencer’s also opened its 20,000 sq. ft. fifth hyperstore in Hyderabad located at Bowenpally, Secunderabad. On the launch S. M. Ramanathan, Vice President – Coastal AP & Hyderabad at Spencer Retail said that the 20,000 sq.ft store at Bowenpally brings the number of Spencer’s stores at Hyderabad to 18, which includes 5 hyperstores. Hyderabad, Mr. Ramanathan added, is very important to Spencer’s – it was the first city where Spencer’s, way back in 2000, opened its first hypermarket at Musheerabad.

Consumers can expect the latest shopping experiences at all these news stores offering a wide range of merchandise in food and grocery including FMCG processed foods, fresh foods and vegetables, personal care, cosmetics and as also electronics. The new Spencer’s stores also has an extensive range of local savories, organic and imported fruits like Washington and Fuji apples along with branded luggage sets to meet the need of the citizen’s growing demand. It will also offer a wide range of dairy and staple products for every day household consumption.


Spencer’s today runs 123 stores including 38 large-format stores across 35 cities in India. The all-India footfall is about 4 million per month as per their data. Spencer’s store dates back more than 150 years since they set up its first stores in Chennai way back in 1862.
