Designed by Flowchart Retail Consultancy, the store at Navi Mumbai International Airport blends traditional Indian architectural elements with modern retail sensibilities.
Ayurveda, an ayurvedic lifestyle store by April Moon Retail Private Limited (part of Adani Airport Holding), recently unveiled its store at Navi Mumbai International Airport - Departure, where the earthy and tranquil setting creates the right environment for travelers to pause and experience brands like Kama, Forest Essentials, Sadhev, Spa Ceylon, and Pahadi Natural.
Designed by Flowchart Retail Consultancy, the design language of the store blends traditional Indian architectural elements with a modern retail sensibility. At 864 sq ft, every inch at Ayurveda is intentional. The layout is clean, well-organised and gives each brand its own distinct space, while maintaining a coherent, consistent look across the store to suit airport setting.
“The intent was to design a multi-brand (MBO) format store that feels deeply rooted in Indian wellness traditions, yet avoids appearing heritage-oriented or nostalgic in its expression. As an MBO format, each of these brands was to be showcased in a clean, categorised manner using a unified design language,” says Mahesh Shinde, Founder of Flowchart Retail Consultancy.
Ode to Indian roots
The store’s facade combines contemporary curved architecture with Indian-inspired detailing. A soft, rounded entrance frames the store, making it feel open and inviting from the outside. Jali-inspired panels add a familiar touch, introducing texture and depth without overpowering the design.
The window display is neatly placed within the niche, which allows products to stand out without looking cluttered. Overall, the facade feels contemporary, yet still connected to its Indian roots.
Intentional & Immersive
Walking in, the store has been planned to clearly categorise wall bays for intuitive navigation while open floor circulation has been incorporated for airport efficiency.
The interiors of the store are highly symmetrical, with a classic wooden shelving unit displaying products like an apothecary cabinet. Lightweight display systems were opted to avoid visual heaviness. The brilliant use of wood, textured surfaces, and earthy tones in the store adds warmth, while subtle metallic detailing introduces refinement.
As an experiential element, a dedicated try-and-test unit encourages customers to engage with textures, fragrances, and formulations.
Ayurveda is designed with small display hotspots, placed between the wall shelves to break the monotony and bring attention to key products. At the centre, floor display units highlight the hero products, seasonal launches and new collections.
As for the lighting strategy, a layered lighting approach brings in the best of ambient, accent and feature lighting, where the warm colour temperature enhances natural materials. A circular chandelier above acts as an anchor, visually tying the space together. Toward the billing area, a botanical mural adds a calm, layered backdrop, while the cash desk with its illuminated jali detail brings in a warm finish to the space.
Blending the best of contemporary retail setting, peppered with traditional Indian architectural elements and a earthy vibe, Ayurveda creates a new benchmark for the category in travel retail.
