bigbasket wins top Global Honours at the European E-Commerce Summit

It is the only Indian company to make it to the top 3 at the summit that celebrated the best of e-commerce across Europe and other emerging markets

bigbasket, India's leading online supermarket with a presence in over 25 Indian cities, has bagged the 2nd place at the Global E-commerce Award ceremony that was hosted by Ecommerce Europe in Barcelona. The event celebrated the best of the e-commerce industry from across Europe and other emerging markets. Swedish brands Chiquelle and Ikea bagged the gold and bronze awards respectively. Chabla emerged as the winner in the entrepreneurial category.The nominees were put through the paces as they competed for the Global E-commerce Award titles. The pitch by bigbasket captured 28% of the audience votes and bagged the silver award. Chiquelle garnered 52% and Ikea got 20% of the audience votes. For judging the Global E-commerce Awards, jurors used findings from BCG's Omni-channel Shop Experience Audits as a point of departure for deliberation. In fact, bigbasket was the only Indian company to feature in the top 3.

That's why you see the cross section of geographies, verticals and sizes represented by the 3 finalists for this year's awards."

With a few hundred daily orders, bigbasket had a modest beginning. In five years, with the support of its customers, it has surpassed the 50,000 daily orders mark to become India's largest online supermarket. The Bangalore-based company recently crossed the 5 million customers mark. bigbasket has also recently strengthened its B2B business by expanding to the HoReCa (Hotels, Restaurants, and Caterers) segment and partnering with SnapBizz, a retail-technology firm, in an effort to transform India's kirana stores into technology-enabled modern retail stores.Five years into the business, bigbasket's average monthly customer spend has grown from Rs 500 - 800 in December 2011 to Rs. 2000+. In the past year alone the company has seen over a 300% growth and continues to grow by 10% on a month-on-month basis.
