Metro Cash & Carry to expand with more stores in Kolkata

By Nabamita Chatterjee | December 12, 2017

The company has 24 stores in the country, six of them in Bangalore, and plans to double the count in the next three years.

Metro Cash & Carry India, which has its existing store at the EM Bypass in Kolkata, has emerged as one of the largest in India in terms of revenue. Thus, they are looking to open more stores in the city. The German wholesaler has plans to set up new stores in BT Road and Joka-Thakurpukur areas. Arvind Mediratta, Managing Director, METRO Cash & Carry India said, “Kolkata is a priority market for us. The city can take at least 10 stores. We are very keen to expand but the real estate is a challenge."

Each store is expected to generate at least 1,000 jobs directly and indirectly apart from bringing foreign direct investment in West Bengal.
