‘Retail lockdown should be last resort,’ says RAI

The Retailers body has reiterated that continuing economic activities is as important as saving lives. 

Retailers Association of India (RAI) on Monday has said in a statement that  partial or total lockdown of retail businesses should be considered only as a last resort, in case of extreme spike in Covid -19 cases and strain on health infrastructure.

Asserting that ensuring economic health and continuity of employment is as important as saving lives, the retailers' body also said emphasis should be given on strict adherence to Covid appropriate behavior. such as masking, social distancing, and sanitization by citizens and businesses alike.

“Partial or total lockdown of retail businesses should only be considered as a last resort in case of extreme strain on healthcare infrastructure as ensuring economic health and continuity of employment is as important as saving lives," RAI said in a statement.
