Sood unveils store dedicated to designer menswear in Kolkata

The rich family legacy of designer menswear in Kolkata has now moved into in a new avatar as Burlingtons has now transformed to'Sood', known for bespoke luxury and men's elegance. The store, located at the iconic Park Street, showcases the works of in-house designer and owner Ratul Sood who focuses primarily on menswear. The space is aptly segmented into two major zones, the wedding collection and another area completely devoted to bespoke tailoring.
 
Speaking with VM&RD, Sood shares, "Soods was Burlingtons and now Burlingtons is Sood. Because of the way we value our business what can be a better commitment than putting up our name on a board. As Indian men today are very choosy and finicky about their look and clothes, they take inspiration from their travels, exposure to the internet, films, Bollywood etc. about fashion. People today are more groomed and are wearing really fitted and well-designed clothes. Thus, our USP's are innovative designs, great fit, world-class fabrics and bespoke tailoring. Our entire collection is just samples to give an inspiration to our customers for good design and we can customise it up to any level for them.”

The label uses fabrics imported mainly from Italian fashion houses like Loro Piana, Vitale Barberis Canonico, Reda, Dormeuil for their suits, while all embellishments are imported from Germany and embroidery is handcrafted by the best artisans of Bengal. Sood designs classic and trendy suits, smart jackets, fitted trousers, crisp shirts, traditional bandhgalas and sherwanis. The brand has also forayed into Indo-Western such as jodhpuris, harem pants and Nehru jackets.

On the expansion of the brand, Sood mentions, "We hope to duplicate our success by opening more stores in Kolkata, with the second one in Kankurgachhi area and other cities in the near future. We are getting great response from smaller towns and we want to cater to them by being physically present through retail outlets. We are also opening our online retailing and going to give entire customised solution to our customers soon.”
