We wanted to start something which can empower us to help few more under-privileged women who are actually struggling to get a better life. So the story of Upananda begins here. The more we succeed, more we are empowered to help them and that's what we call "Joy of our Soul”. We are associated with NGO "Dakshini Prayash” and have trained many under-privileged women to work for us when their kids are being taught in the free school comprising of 400 students from Nursery to Class VIII. This fashion store "Upananda” with a noble cause is our gift to the city of Kolkata.”

Further on the retailing aspect of Upananda, Mukherjee shares, "We selected this cafe because it has a great visibility in terms of our TG. Also, very soon within this financial year we are planning to launch two more stores, one in South Kolkata which will be a standalone property and another in New Delhi which may be this type of Shop-in-Cafe arrangement.”

Upananda is working towards providing a better life to the under privileged women by not only training them in making handicrafts or stitching but also the basic education related to hygiene and family planning.
