Sri Ram and Son, a prominent brand in the wedding retail sector, partnered with Sync Design Studio for their new store at Gaur City Mall, Greater Noida, which blends nostalgia with contemporary aesthetics.

Sri Ram and Son, a prominent brand in the wedding retail sector, has expanded to setting up stores in major city malls. To create a store design that blends nostalgia with contemporary aesthetics, they have partnered with Sync Design Studio for their store in Gaur City Mall, Greater Noida.

Sandeep Dang, Founder of Sync Design Studio, tells Retail4Growth that the brand, which began its journey way back in 1882, came to them with the challenge of staying relevant in the retail industry with their store expansions. The client wanted a design which was contemporary in nature but which would connect the customers back to the identity and roots of the brand,” he explains

The design team rose up to the challenge by blending nostalgia with contemporary aesthetics —"a contextual reinterpretation of the old-world charm of Chandni Chowk” as Sandeep puts it.”

Essentially the store design project aimed at helping the brand reframe its language and personality to resonate with modern audiences.

While the designs have been carefully inspired by Chandni Chowk of Old Delhi, what really catches the eye in the newly designed store is the evident attention to the details.

Evocative design elements

The store façade is inspired by the iron railings, brackets, and jharokhas of Shahjahanabad havelis. There are also interspersed mirrors attached to create an illusion of endless arches.

Inside, cantilever racks have been usedto display the products, which are customizable for front and side hanging. Further, classical wrought iron legs support the tables topped with white stone, while strip lighting has been used on shelves to highlight products gently

The dressing lounge sectionhas a chandelier suspended from the bold gold ceiling, along with mirrors across the edges of tables, corners, and between racks.

An infinity mirror arch divides the linear space in two to showcase both of Sri Ram and Son's key collections— traditional ceremonial wear and Western formal attire. On one side, sherwanis hang from golden rods, salient against a deep maroon backdrop, while the contemporary section offers a contrast with its sleek grey and white stripes, conveying a chic and minimalist vibe.

Bespoke miniature-style painting above the cash counter further elevates the period charm and ambience of the space, depicting the historic market with the pool that inspired the name "Chandni Chowk" the Moonlight Square, an elephant, and the Lahori Gate, enabling visitors to be steeped in cultural heritage.

When design can fuse the past and the future

Sync Design Studio has designed Sri Ram and Son's five new retail stores with each outlet uniquely tailored to the location, while resonating with the essence of the brand and the spirit of Chandni Chowk.

As Sandeep explains, “We started this project 8 months ago, and since then it’s been a continuous process. We have delivered four more store designs for them and each time the client has been very happy with the design outcome.”

The project underscores the fact that the past and the future can indeed co-exist in seamless harmony. All it takes is a thoughtful approach to design supported by close understanding of brand legacy and cultural context.
