SUSHISAMBA: An aesthetic fusion of diverse cultural flavours

By Dhwani Dharamshi | November 15, 2024

The restaurant combining Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisine has opened a new in Capital Tower, Singapore. Designed by Kokaistudios, the interiors are a blend of the three cultures together.

Stationed on the 52nd floor, SUSHISAMBA offers a 360-degree view of the city, with both ocean and urban landscape views. The Japanese aesthetic is reflected in the geometric designs and use of natural materials, while the Brazilian and Peruvian influence is noticeable from the bold colors, textiles, and finishes.

This rooftop bar marks Kokaistudio's first project in Singapore. The design studio commented that they wanted to reflect the diversity of cultures and the brand's premium quality. They wanted to create an experience for people to enjoy, not just a meal.

The design language was kept in co-ordinance with SUSHISAMBA in Dubai and features a 3D-printed bamboo vaulted ceiling at a height of 8.5 meters for a natural feelA lush green wall and hanging greenery contribute to the tropical ambiance.

While one side of the space is dedicated to the restaurant, the opposite side features a bar lounge. Additionally, the venue includes three private dining rooms, each with its own unique identity, and a mezzanine level reserved exclusively for VIPs, complete with a dedicated bar.

Ian Yu, Interior Design Director at Kokaistudios, while sharing the project details with Retial4Growth, mentions the 3D roof as the highlight of the concept SUSHISAMBA follows.

He adds, “We added the curves in the 3D roof because they are more dynamic and interesting. Additionally, the mezzanine space is also one of our key designs. Since this is a tranquil and private dining space, we wanted to show the best view of the city to the diners, hence the panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows and other treatments.”

According to Ian, the 3D roof was both the highlight and the challenge. The most difficult part of the design process was the modelling work, because every curvature, width and dimension had to be done precisely to present a natural roll away. He credits the success of the satisfactory result to the software technology and the patience of the team members.

The design and interiors of SUSHISAMBA perfectly complement the Singapore culture, creating an immersive dining experience. With panoramic views and a rich cultural fusion, SUSHISAMBA Singapore is positioned as a premier destination for experiential fine dining.
