New beauty Casa Aurum located in Sultanpur and designed by Sanjeet Singh is positioned as a space that shows “Brutalism can be beautiful” according to the design team. The store is a play of material, texture, and pattern. “Opening its doors in Spring 2022, the space is almost oxymoronic. The owners entrusted Sanjeet Singh with their latest retail venture. The brief was to create a singular space to sell textiles and objects for the home. The client insisted on portraying gentle confidence with shapes and materials. From this conversation was born a space with a monolithic sentiment and sharp geometry,” says the statement from the design team.

Spread over 2400 square feet, the store project involved meticulous planning. Detailed custom cabinetry in varied sizes was designed to fit multiple objects. Multiple 24 feet long tables along with 24 feet cabinets were made in monolithic form. There is an active quartz inlay that goes along the floor following the geometry of the space, mimicking the reception table, climbs the counters up and down and then disappears into a solid mass of stone. “What you see at first sight might look relatively simple. The complexity stems from the play of materials,” says the statement. To soften the space, white linen curtains are used to create distinctions between various spaces and their functions, they inform. Also, to add glamour walls have been treated with wallpaper from the European brand Arte and, offbeat artwork lends weight to the ambience. “It is like the perfect cocktail: if the ingredients make sense and you use them in the right quantity, you get an amazing cocktail. As Sanjeet himself muses, “Who says functionality has to be boring?”
