Bhasin Sons excels the made-to-measure offering

By Namisha Raj | September 28, 2017

Designed by Deepak Kalra, the store at Hazratganj is “made-to-measure” concept, and the brand plans to open a premium bespoke store soon.

Late Mr OP Bhasin, who was originally a banker from Rawalpindi, Pakistan, founded Bashin Sons in 1950 to survive the tough times during partition. “The first store - Bhasin Collection was opened at Aminabad, Old Lucknow, where we were allotted a stall at the refugee market. From there, there was no looking back and then we opened another store at Hazaratganj in late 80’s and early 90’s,” says the brand’s director - Dhruva Bhasin. “We have mastered the skill over past few years as we wanted to cater to new niche and elite clients now. The store at Hazratganj is “made-to-measure” concept, and we would like to open a premium bespoke store where entire suite is made by hand with thousands of stitches.”

The major collection of Bhasin Sons is dominated by Italian brands like Ermenegildo Zegna, Scabal from England and Piana from Italy. Last year, Bhasin Sons started their own private collection, which Dhruva says is one their biggest achievement, as there are very few players in Indian market who has cloth material made for certain specification. “We also started in-house tailoring unit to support our premium fabric.” Bhasin Sons offers designs for men; where they would rather design a whole wardrobe than just single piece for a party or wedding.

The initial store opened was 700 sq ft, as Mr Bhasin was looking for an architect who could design a space that could also enhance the clientele. “That’s when we thought of architect Deepak Kalra. It was he who has designed our 700 sqft store and another 3000 sqft area when we expanded the store,” says Dhruva Bhasin. The reason behind choosing Deepak Kalra was his ideation and his innovative ideas in designing the stores; as no two stores would ever look the same. There was a lot of joint effort between Dhruva Bhasin and Deepak Kalra to design the store, where Bhasin himself has done great research by visiting a lot of stores in Italy. Flooring, fixtures, lighting (Diyasmantra, Lucknow) etc. is sourced by Deepak Kalra and Dhruva Bhasin.
