Amazon joins the Quick Commerce bandwagon

The e-commerce giant has reportedly announced its foray into quick commerce with a pilot launch of its 15 minute delivery service in Bengaluru planned later this month.

Even as the quick commerce (QC) draws attention and traction with more and more players entering its fold, e-commerce giant Amazon has reportedly announced its foray into the segment. The company has said that the pilot of its 15 minute delivery service will start from Bengaluru later this month. 

This development is quite obviously expected to intensify competition in the $6 billion quick commerce market dominated by players such as Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, Flipkart Minutes and Zepto. 

“We are excited to start a pilot to give our customers a choice to get their everyday essentials in 15 minutes or less,” Amazon India country manager Samir Kumar said is reported to have said. 

Reportedly, Blinkit dominates the quick commerce market with a 46% share, followed by Zepto at 29% and Swiggy Instamart at 25%. 

According to an Indian Express report, Amazon wants a share of the growing QC pie in India, leveraging its already large scale delivery network which covers most pincodes in the country. IT however remains to be seen how much of a dent it will make in the market base of rival players and whether this will mark the extension of QC to India’s tier 3 and 4 markets.
