The key objective of starting this initiative is to make Khadi’s retail presence in all major malls and retail stores.. Discussions are underway with other retailers to add more Khadi Korners.
On the occasion the Minister said, “Gone are the days when customers of Khadi used to travel distances to buy from Khadi Bhandars. Today, Khadi has become the favourite fabric for one and all and it has showcased its presence right from the sleepy hamlets to mega malls of the cosmopolitans.” He added, “With tying up with various retail chains to launch Khadi Korner, Khadi has once again created a new dimension in retailing.”
Vinai Kumar Saxena, KVIC, Chairman added, “We are planning to open exclusive Khadi Korners in major malls and supermarkets in the country to ensure Khadi’s presence at doorstep. As the average daily sale at Khadi Korner will be around Rs 30,000, it will certainly be a major marketing game-plan for Khadi in retail and expected to give a major push to Khadi sales.” He confirmed, “Designer intervention is also planned by KVIC to introduce market trendy designs in Khadi. Reputed designers like Ritu Beri, Nachiket and institutes like NIFT, SNDT, and Pearl Academy are also being involved in this initiative.”

In first phase, Khadi Korners have been planned with Globus in Noida, Chennai, Varnasi and Ahemedabad. Subsequently, tie-up has also been made with Cotton Bazaar for Mumbai expansion. Besides, discussions are going on with other retailers like Apna Bazaar, Big Bazaar Shoppers Stop etc for other locations.
