Two day conference on sustainable fashion to be held in Pune

The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India with MKSSS’s School of Fashion Technology (SOFT) is organising a two days conference ‘Bharatiya - A Legacy of Sustainability’ on 8th & 9th of June, 2023, in Pune, aimed at contributing towards policies under the Civil20 India 2023 initiative. 

The  Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) has announced that it is supporting MKSSS’s School of Fashion Technology (SOFT) to organise a two days conference ‘Bharatiya - A Legacy of Sustainability’ on 8th & 9th June 2023 in Pune (Maharashtra), to deliberate on sustainability in ‘Fashion and Lifestyle’ with an aim to contribute towards policies under the Civil20 India 2023 initiative.

The conference has been organised as a part of the ‘Green Fashion India’ platform, which is authorised to encourage the fashion industry to embrace sustainable practices by YOJAK 

Centre for Research and Strategic Planning for Sustainable Development India. YOJAK  is the designated coordinator of LiFE (Lifestyle For Environment), a working group of Civil20 India 2023 to promote social and economic development under the G20 initiative. 

The ‘Green Fashion India’ platform by SOFT in association with CMAI has been promoting research and activities in the field of responsible fashion at the industry and academia level for over a decade, will be bringing together over 150 elite contributors from across India and overseas to actively participate in various discussions at the ‘Bharatiya’ conference to extract important pointers for policy recommendations to C20 India 2023 initiative under G20. 

Discussions during the conference include topics such as Circular Fashion, Sustainable Human Systems, Inclusive Growth vs Protection challenges in the present Fashion Business Scenario, and Protection of Traditional Legacy in handlooms, handmade and hand embroideries, Indian traditions and its impact on sustainability from the perspective of regeneration, among others. 

The Keynote speakers at the conference include Naresh Tyagi, Chief Sustainability Officer, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd.; and Manohar Samuel, Advisor – Reliance Retail. 

Chief Guest of the conference, Rajesh Masand, President, Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) said, “It is an honour to participate as the catalyst of this global collaborative movement that is of enormous significance to the environment and our future generations. As a representative association of the apparel industry in India we are looking at evangelising more than 4000 members that largely comprise apparel manufacturers and brands, and more than 20,000 retailers.” 

Special Guest at the conference,  Rahul Mehta, Chief Mentor, Clothing Manufacturers Association of India and Chairman, Advisory Board Committee, MKSSS’s School of Fashion Technology (SOFT), expressed, “It is an opportunity for the fashion & the apparel industry to showcase their initiatives to integrate environmentally friendly practices into their daily operations and also recommend policies that focus on environment friendly initiatives.”
