Bangalore International Airport Limited, operator of the Kempegowda International Airport, recently launched The Quad by BLR, an innovative retail and F&B plaza offering international experience to visitors and travellers alike with over 20 F&B and retails outlets.

Bangalore International AirportTravelers and visitors passing through the Bengaluru international airport now have a new destination where they can chill, shop or indulge their palate – The Quad by BLR, an F&B and retail zone with over 20 outlets.

Bangalore International AirportAiming to deliver international dining and retail experience to visitors and travelers alike, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) — operator of Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru— recently launched The Quad by BLR, making BLR Airport the first in the country to introduce such an offering, according to the company.

Bangalore International AirportSituated on the Kerb (in front of Arrivals), The Quad is spread over a total retail area of 50,000 sq. ft and sees approximately 10,000 walk-ins per day, according to the company.

Bangalore International Airport“At the Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, we constantly explore innovative means to bring delightful experiences for passengers and visitors. We are thrilled to present our unique concept of the retail plaza – The Quad by BLR – for our passengers, visitors and for the people of Bangalore. The array of outlets will offer an exciting shopping, dining and entertainment experience for all,” said Hari Marar, MD & CEO, BIAL in a company statement.

Bangalore International AirportDesigned by the BIAl’s in-house design team, the objective of the Quad’s space design, according to a company spokesperson was to “provide a community space supporting connectivity, culture, dining, shopping and communication for passengers, visitors and others in the vicinity of the airport”. The design of the space was inspired by Baroque gardens, designed using geometric shapes, usually circles, rectangles, and triangles, besides irregular patterns made of swirls and curved lines.

The space is divided into four zones:

Retail Zone – Brands include Lego, Superdry, Auromonde, Great Foods Of India, Hidesign, Gourmet Food, Gajet Plaza, etc

F&B Zone – Includes Windmills, Barley & Grapes Café, Haagen-Dazs, Café Azzure, Smoor, Doner & Gyros, The Wok Shop, House Of Kebabs, Frozen Bottle, Burrito Boys and Café Coffee Day

Flea Market

Amphitheatre: Includes the centrally-located LED video wall and arena meant for live performances and designed to host plays, musicals, poetry/book readings, concerts and more.

Bangalore International AirportThe time taken for the design and execution of the space was three months. Speaking about the design and execution challenges, the BIAL spokesperson said, “The concept in itself was new and had never been done by any airport in India before. This made it even more difficult – as pioneers, we were on our own and did not have any point of reference. To enable speedy execution, we had people working round the clock (concessionaires, design & construction team, etc). The main challenges were co-ordination with all 21 concessioners to bring life to the ideation in such a short time, working with limited resources and the fact that The Quad by BLR was being developed in an operational airport.”Bangalore International Airport
