By Retail4Growth Team | April 06, 2020

Governments, businesses and communities are facing the brunt of coronavirus pandemic. As COVID-19 impacts more people every day, most sectors of the economy have been reduced to a standstill.

So what's at stake for the Retail Industry, how much of it will be hit? Nimish Kenia, Co-founder of Happy Planet shares his take on the future of retail, plan ahead and much more

Nimish KeniaHow are things looking now? How do you foresee the next few months business-wise?

It's been very challenging. Expected government to step with some reassurance measures for business but it's been a down. Everything is at a standstill and is going very slow. Hoping to be able to cope up with everything in the coming months, but the coming few months look difficult.

Any plan B in place?

There is no other plan as everything is hit drastically and the crisis that we are facing is traumatizing. Everything plans to be hit by once in a century crisis.

Any specific measures you have put in place for business continuity & employee welfare?

In terms of employee welfare, all our operations stopped before the lockdown was announced and we have asked every employee to stay indoors for their safety. After brainstorming we have realized we have to wait till the government is able to take all the precautionary measure to control the pandemic, we have been working on better planning and functioning of the company offline but everything depends on the severeness of this and hopes that it stops soon to start operating. We have to patiently wait for the economic taskforce and then we can channelize how we can give our best to the stakeholders.

Since an economic recession is expected, how do you see your industry getting impacted?

The economic recession for our industry is already seen and it’s impacted a large scale. This slowdown and coping up will take months to recover. This is not about businesses or investors only it's about the betterment of the economic health of our country and there should be some fiscal measures by the government to improve the current condition.

Do you see this crisis changing the way the whole retail industry will function, moving forward?

I believe there are going to be a lot of changes which are already visible from now and it's not to be similar as it was anytime soon.
