Kisanserv aims to open 250 new retail stores across Pune and Mumbai over the next three years, tripling its current footprint and says it seeks to provide consumers with affordable, high-quality produce and support local farmers by ensuring fair prices and direct sourcing.

In a bid to bridge the gap between urban consumers and fresh, ethically sourced produce, Pune-based agritech player Kisanserv has announced a bold expansion plan with plans to open 250 new retail stores across Pune and Mumbai over the next three years, tripling its current footprint and potentially serving millions of new customers through its omni-channel neighborhood retail stores offering exclusively fruits and vegetables.

The company positions itself as a player selling fresh, premium-packed fruits and vegetables at prices 15–25% lower than the market average.

Niranjan Sharma, Founder and CEO of Kisanserv, said, "Our mission at Kisanserv is twofold: to provide consumers with affordable, high-quality produce and to support local farmers by ensuring fair prices and direct sourcing."

The company has already opened 25 stores in Pune and Mumbai in 15 months and has lined up plans to open 250 more retail stores for fruits and vegetables in Pune and Mumbai over the next three years.

The company says it sees revenue INR 36,000 per square foot annually and that the retail plans are driven by this success.

Kisanserv focuses on transparency and sustainability in the supply chain. “The conventional supply chain for fruits and vegetables often involves multiple intermediaries, leading to a chain reaction of inefficiencies. Farmers receive a meagre portion of the final selling price, often reported to be as low as 20–30%, while consumers end up paying inflated prices. Numerous factors contribute to this inefficiency, including excessive handling, transportation delays, and unnecessary markups at each stage.  Kisanserv breaks this cycle by establishing a direct connection between over 10,000 farmers across Maharashtra and consumers. By cutting out the middlemen, they ensure fairer compensation for farmers, often more than double what they traditionally receive, which translates into fresher produce at 15-25% lower prices for consumers, empowers farmers, and strengthens local communities,” shares the company statement.

Apart from physical stores, the company also offers  the Kisanserv Express app, promising home delivery within 30 minutes, free of charge.

Kisanserv's retail  journey evolved from being a technology player. "Technology is at the heart of everything we do," says Praveen Tiwary, Kisanserv's Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer. "Our software streamlines operations, reduces errors, and provides valuable data insights that help us constantly improve our offerings and meet the evolving needs of our customers."  The company’s tech background laid the groundwork for its foray into the retail sector, culminating in the launch of its first fruit and vegetable store in January 2023.
