Zoya : Epitomizing love for jewellery and reverence for the sheer artistry

By Mohit Manghani | June 11, 2020

Conceptualised as an island of creative immersion, the 3,300 sq. ft. exquisite diamond boutique from the House of Tata is a contemporary space that celebrates the layered complexity of the inner veneers of the Zoya world. Kadambari Misra, Brand Experience Lead of Zoya, in an exclusive chat with Retail4Growth, shares some interesting details about the stunning boutique’s design.

Kadambari MisraWhat was the client/brand’s brief for Bangalore boutique’s design?

As a brand, every expression that emanates from Zoya is intricately woven and imbued with meaning, from the stories behind each finished piece to our boutiques where clients experience fine jewellery in an all-new way.

Our new boutique in Bangalore is an evolution of this connection with our clients. Stately yet delicate, minimal yet feminine, we wanted it all to come together in a highly contemporary space that celebrates the layered complexity of the inner veneers of the Zoya world.

Just as Zoya prides itself as a patron of the age-old methods of Indian karigari, we wanted that love of the handcrafted to translate into the spaces we create, and indeed in the Bangalore boutique, every detail has been custom designed and fabricated for us by designers and artisans.

How did the brief and the brand personality translate in terms of colour themes, graphics, lighting, flooring, store layout, materials, fixtures and other elements?

All the elements that have come together in the 3300 square feet of the Zoya boutique on Vittal Mallya Road speak with a quiet eloquence not only of a love for fine jewellery, but also importantly, a deep appreciation of the handcrafted and bespoke, and above all a reverence for the sheer artistry that goes into each expression of jewellery.

The walls are corniced in delicate shades of white and blush, softly complementing the vitrines and windows where our jewellery is displayed.

Stepping into the high foyer area, under a spreading chandelier of blown glass in hues of blush and amber, one takes in the ambiance of the space before venturing further in.

The diamond section is a circle of pure white light over a round display in cool grey, and as the journey through space progresses, one is pleasantly surprised by the two niches on the right flank of the space, as one moves from the wearable through the more expressive collections, all the way to the most prized high-value pieces.

The piece de resistance of this entire experience is the Private Lounge at the far end of the space, set in blush hues, its sheer curtains subtly demarcating the area as one where the client and the jewellery advisor can have a deeper conversation over hand-brewed coffee and fresh hors d’oeuvres. The plush wall paneling and soft carpet are stunningly contrasted by the Art Deco-inspired centre table and signature faceted mirrors, returning once again to put the Zoya woman at the heart of this story.

3. Any special challenges faced while executing the project, how they were overcome?

The double-height within the property is a surprise as one step inside, adding grandeur to space. And so it was imperative to find the perfect lighting solution. The diamond counter required an absolutely sharp, colorless light, for which we had special fixtures imported from Italy to ensure this was just so. Overall, the lux level of the lights was meticulously calibrated to fall just right on the jewellery on display, while at the same time mimicking a daylight ambiance in the space.

Another interesting factor was the relative linearity of the space, something we turned around rather successfully by creating semi-fluid zones demarcated by sectioned screens. Additionally, there were niches on the right flank which were reimagined to deliver a pleasant surprise while navigating through space, allowing the progressively more high-value jewellery sections to reveal themselves one at a time. Space unfolds gradually, like a journey of discovery.

4. Timeline and Cost involved

From concept to completion of the boutique, it was a journey of about 8 months.
