H&M continues expansion in India; confirms opening a new store at Lucknow

The Swedish multinational, Hennes & Mauritz continues expansion in India as it plans to launch its next store at Lucknow. The brand considers India as an important market and look forward to increase its presence through both, online and brick-and-mortar approach.

Janne Einola, India country manager, H&M, stated, “ The company has seen its online customer base increase by 60% year-on-year in India, but does not foresee offline retail diminishing its importance in the country. ”

The post-covid world has disrupted retail operations due to frequent lockdowns still happening in some parts of the country. Therefore, online business is gaining much pace.

Commenting on its online reach, Janne added, “Online will also grow in the future because here is still a sentiment in the country where people do not feel safe going to physical stores, despite our efforts to make shopping experience as safe as possible.”

The brand’s new store launch planned for Lucknow is subjected to delay due to administrative restrictions; however the company aims to substantially work on increasing its Indian retail presence in the upcoming year.
